STOCK MARKET
CLEARING SALE. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having held a clearing sale yesterday on behalf of Mr L. T. Hawke, Clareville. Mr Hawke is a well known farmer in the district, and besides having a very good herd of Ayrshire cows to sell, he also had a full range of farm implements and a team of horses and pigs. With such a variety to offer, the sale attracted a very large crowd. Besides a big attendance of local farmers buyers were present from the Woodvine, Pahiatua, South Wairarapa and Hutt districts. The cows were offered first, and met with ; keen', competition. They were all high grade Ayrsliires, young and mostly earl ycalvelis. The top price was £l2, while other prices were £ll, £lO, £9/10/-, £9 down to £5 10/-. The two-year heifers were on the small side and were sold for £4/10/- to £5/5/-. The yearling heifers 1 made £3 10/- and were purchased by a Hutt buyer. Sows due to farrow made £4 5/- to £5; slips, 24/-. Horses: 6-year bay mare £SO, 7-year mare £57, 9-year geiding £46; 10-year gelding £47; grey hack £lB. Implements: Drill £4B; reaper and binder £10; roller £l9; plough £lO/10/-; D.F. plough £9; cultivator £6/12/6; manure distributor £l4 10/-; spring cart £lO/10/-. Other implements and numerous sundries made good values; L.K.G. milking machine, £45.
