LAMENTABLE OVERCROWDING
IN ENGLAND AND WALES. (Received Friday, 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, Thursday. A report on overcrowding in England and Wales shows that 341,554 families are overcrowded, and 200,000 new houses are required to remedy the position. Overcrowding means that the sexes are not separated at night, more than two persons in each room, three in two rooms, etc. A further 380,000 families are just above the overcrowding limit.
The average uncroAvded family consists of 3.11 units in which children between one and ten years of age counted as a half. The average of overcrowded families is 5.G units.
