GOODWOOD STAKES. Received Thursday, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Wednesday. The Goodwood Stakes resulted:— Avondale 1 Cho-Sen - Corona-Corona 3 Sixteen horses started. Won by two lengths, with a head between the second and third horses. TURF NOTES. Reports from the south state that Epris has had to be eased in his work through an injury. The mishap has come at an inopportune time. No definite programme can be mapped out for Queen of Song in the meantime, but there is more than a probability that, after running in the Winter Cup the Songbird mare will make a trip to Australia. Queen of Song put on a good deal of condition during a respite following the May meeting at Washdyke, but she is being sent along again and should be in nice order when required 1 * to begin-the new season.

In the 36 years since the race was inaugurated no horse has won the Winter Cup more Ilian once. Another interesting fact is that only once has a favourite succeeded, this distinction belonging to Fast Passage. Le Choueas had the figure 1 against his name in the totalisator order, but he was coupled with Nippy, and he would have been an outsider in other circumstances.

At the Victoria Park (New South Wales) races yesterday, Golden Gate was unplaced in the first division of the Flying Handicap, Golden Treasure second in the first division of the Encourage Handicap, Casimar and Aladdin unplaced in the second division of the Novice Juvenile Handicap, and Coilstar and Mirampnd unplaced in the Victoria Park Handicap.
