INCREASE IN PRICES.
(The Editor.) Sir, —Is our country heading for the same crisis that befell Australia during the term of her Labour Government? The Labour Government are apparently trying to do everything in their power to" make the general situation a great deal easier for the average workingman, but I would iike to point out that many people are puzzled at the sudden increase in the prices of almost everything that is essential in everyday life. But wages have not increased sufficiently to enable people to cope with the higher prices of foodstuffs. I do not suggest that wages should go higher, because I know that employers would be unable to stand a further strain on their financial resources. All I am asking is this: “How are people to be expected to keep up with these increased prices and yet maintain the standard of living that existed in 1931?” In my opinion it cannot be done, and through the policy of th« present Government there is going to be just as much strife as ever. . Although it may be wrong to criticise a new Government so early in its career, I think that in this -case it is quite justified. —I am, etc., ■’ WORRIED.
