.AMERICAN PREPARATIONS. (Received. Thursday, 9.50 a.m.) HONOLULU, Wednesday. . The coastguard cutter Itasca returned last night after establishing Hawaiian boys on. Baker, Howland and Jarvis Islauds, as “colonists.’ There are three boys to' each island on the proposed ( antipodes air., route.' . It is understood that the move was made ’to strengthen the United States’ claim to the islands, which Great Britain disputes, although officials made no comment. Mr W. T. Miller, of the Commerce Department, will go to the islands in the Itasca within a few weeks, taking > additional boys and radio equipment. Weather observation stations will be established for co-ordination with observations at Pago Pago and Honolulu, thus presenting a complete picture of weather conditions on the route.
