SAMOAN MISSION
A ROYAL WELCOME.
(Received Thursday, 8.55 a.m.) APIA, Wednesday,
Twenty-five Fautasi, flying Mau and Government, flags and containing about 500 natives, met the .Maui Pomare in the roadstead at noon to-day.
The Parliamentary Party, which was met on the,wharf by the acting-Admin-istrator, Mr and the Honourables Malietoa, Smyth and Carruthers, and native officials, was accorded a royal welconle. Glorious weather prevailed. 1
For the first time since its inception, the Mau combined with the Malo in public, both sections taking part in a procession. Outside the courthouse, the King’s Birthday was celebrated in the presence of. five thousand people. The opportunity was also taken to welcome the delegation. Addresses were given by Messrs Turnbull, F. Langstone, Faumina (President of the Mau), and Carruthers. The National Anthem was played and a salute of 21 guns fired.
In the afternoon the visitors were entertained at a feast and a programme of Samoan dances at Mulinuu.
The official party is staying at Government House,. Vailima, whore a ball is being held to-night.
