ROAD CYCLING

MASTERTON TO PAHIATTJA. WON BY S. J. BIRD. A keen race was witnessed yesterday in the Masterton Amateur Cycling Club’s 42-mile event from Masterton to Paliiatua. There were about thirty starters and good times were recorded. The results were: S. J. Bird (Paliiatua) 13min., 1; T. Sayers' (Masterton), 13 mins., 2; M. Hunt (Taradale),. 74mLi., 3. The fastest times were put up by three Wellington men: C. Biggs (scr.), lhr. 58mins. lOsecs., 1; R. Dutton (scr.), llir. 59mins., 2; 0. Amy (3mins)/2hrs. 31min. 4 4-ssec.s. The winner of the Oxley trophy, for the first Paliiatua man to finish, was S. J. Bird and the winner of the Youngques't trophy, for the first Masterton competitor to finish, was T. Sayers. A special prize for the first outside rider (not counting the three placed men) Avent to I. Couchman (Wanganui). C. J. Dykes (Masterton) Avas the first man to reach Eketahuna.
