OBITUARY

MAXIM GORKY. (Received Friday, 9.45 a.m.) MOSCOW, Thursday. The death has occurred of Maxim Gorky.

Maxim Gorky, the noted Russian novelist, was born in 1868. He was successively a painter of ikons, peddler of kvass, scullery boy, gardener, watchman and baker’s apprentice,-and eventually became one of the greatest novelists in the world, publishing many books as well as dramas. He had been an outstanding figure in Russian life for a long period.
