POLICE CRITICISED
A JUDGE’S STRICTURES. (Received Friday, 10.10 a.ih.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Strong criticism of the police system of obtaining confessions from accused persons and using them in evidence, was uttered by Chief Justice Mann. Stating that the examination by the police of persons in custody may be, and often is, carried to most undesirable excess, Mr Justice Mann suggested that the powers of the police should be greatly curtailed.
