OVER THE TEACUPS
COLOURFUL ACCESSORIES Colours, which are being quoted as. ideal for accessories to accent the neutral shades of autumn suits and coats include copper and wine shades, rusts, golds, and violets, all of which may appear in hats, scarves, handbags and gloves. Violet is, a very new colour to wear with navy blue, and particularly smart with grey tailor-mades. Match your buttonhole, belt, handbag, and even gloves in the same violet.
Masked Fashions. A Parish fashion that can be traced back through the years is the mask. Schiaparelli shows several of these delightful fancies. The masks are beautifully coloured and have long, sweeping eyelashes of silk. The owner's face is represented in a slightly futuristic way and each mask is fitted with a handle similar to that of a pair of lorgnettes. In the days of James 1., every fashionable woman carried a mask. Conversation in mixed company was so broad that feminine modesty demanded something to hide a blush, and any woman who did not carry a mask was Tightly termed “barefaced."
Glass 1 Hats. Glass is the material of the moment. We hear of a glass brick house in America guaranteed to. stand any amount of stone-throwing. British and French textile manufacturers have produced successful spun glass curtains this year for modem homes. Now we are to have glass hats. Seen on a milliner's table such a hat looks for all the world like a shallow cut glass bowl strewn with flowers. Some of them are •slightly reminiscent of Victorian glass shades. The picture hat predominates, and some of the brims are almost a foot wide. They are featherweight, and can be very becoming. Milliners predict a vogue for glass hats at summer functions, and certainly no woman who wears one will be able to complain that she is in the shade.
Flight of Fashion. Fashion is. to be winged this spring. Winged shoulders, heels and headgear were among the Mercury modes that might have been inspired by the classical god and that intrigued women at one of the spring dress shows. A mannequin appeared in a black evening gown. The train was slit at the back. Each part took the form of a wing, coming apparently from the heel. One shoulder had a winglike drapery. Across the corsage were two white birds witli outstretched wings.
