POLICE CONSTABLE SENTENCED

FOUR YEARS’ GAOL. NAPIER, This Day. To-day Mr Justice Reed sentenced James Baxter (34),- a police constable, on seven charges of breaking, entering and theft, and breaking and entering, to four years’ imprisonment. Other sentences were:—William Edward Cleaver (56), night-watchman, breaking, entering and theft, two years; Martin Pcraniko, alias Bobby Martin, farm labourer, breakiug, entering and theft, and theft from a dwelling, two years’ probation; Charles George Riddell (33), breaking and entering by night with intent to commit a crime, two years’ probation; Stephen Francis Vcary, alias John Foley, alias. James Driscott, aged 36, theft from dwelling, 12 months’ hard labour; F. Marcovina, for making a false declaration, was fined £lO, in default six months ’ imprisonment; Sylvia Mary Flynn (22), a domestic, on charges of making a false oath, was ordered to come up for sentence within two years. —(P.A.)
