AMATEUR ATHLETICS
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. DUNEDIN, Friday. The New Zealand amateur athletic championship meeting opened at Carisbrook this afternoon in excellent weather. An easterly breeze was not strong enough to affect the runners, and the tracks, although in good order, were a little on the heavy side. The mile championship, the most important event of the afternoon, rvas won by Y. P. Boot (Canterbury), with A. R. Wilson (Wellington) second and W. A. C. Pullen (Otago) third. The pole vault championship was won by M. Y. Blake (Canterbury), height lift. The discus .throwing championship was won by A. A. Cameron, Otago (139 ft. 34m.), who was also first, 22ft. 6}in., in the broad jump. In the only other final, the. three mile walk, I. Driscoll (Hawke’s Bay) registered an easy win, with R, J. Watson (Otago) second and ~F. W. Dukes (Canterbury) third.— (P.A.)
