In the meantime, defendant had rung another taxi and been driven home. Constable O’Boyle went to his house and found him outside. He was given the opportunity of seeing tw’o doctors, both of whom said he w r as unfit to drive. Nothing previously was known against him. Titchener said he had been playing cards, and three bottles of beer had been consumed between four men. “You are a menace to yourself and also to others,” said Mr Graham, “and the time is fast approaching when imprisonment without the option of a fine will be the general rule in these eases.” Defendant was fined £ls, his license was cancelled till 31st May, and he was ordered to pay medical and other expenses amounting to £2 7s. —(P.A.)
