EXPLOSION AT GASWORKS

A MAN INJURED. BLENHEIM, This Day. A minor explosion at the Blenheim gasworks just before 11 a.m. wrecked the testing room and a subsequent fire destroyed a number of instruments and other plant. Glencoe T. Patchett, who was employed in the testing room, sustained painful and extensive burns to his face, head and arms, and the works manager, James Watt, who was entering the room at the time, was blown back into the yard. The fire brigade quickly suppressed the outbreak. The damage is not extensive.—(P.A.)
