AIR ATTACKS

ADMISSION OF POTENCY. LONDON, Friday. The Navy is about to double, and eventually quadruple, its anti-aircraft armament, states the naval correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph.” This, he says, is a tacit admission of the potency of air attaek, which is expected to be more formidable as aviation progresses. The Nelson and Rodney will carry six 4.7-inch anti-aircraft guns, and the other latest battleships and cruisers 4-ineh guns. The battleships Warspite and Malaya, which are undergoing refits, will be the first to have eight long-range guns, probably of a new calibre, all controlled as a unit. Each will be capable of firing 80 to 100 high explosive shells per minute at a sky target to the maximum ceiling of visibility. The battleships which are being laid down for 1937 will each have 16 guns.
