STOCK MARKET

FEILDING- SALE. FEILDING, Friday. There was a very keen demand for ewe hoggets at the stock sale to-day, with a fairly heavy offering. Hoggets of good quality were eagerly sought, selling at record high prices. There was also a good demand and splendid sale for wether hoggets. Breeding ewes were yarded in reduced numbers, mostly of mature ages, for which a good enquiry was shown. Fat sheep were easier by a considerable figure, especially hoggets, this owing chiefly to the lack of finish. Fat ewes, especially Southdowns and maiden ewes of prime quality, sold well, but fat wethers were easier. The heavy yarding of fat cattle consisted almost wholly of Jersey and Jersey cross breeds, and sold exceptionally well, both cow and heifer beef . fetching higher rates than fo rsome time past. Very few pens of ox beef were offered. The dairy cattle market was affected by the inferior quality of the offering, prices in consequence receding on late rates. Dairy farmers are not buying low grade or medium quality cows. (P.A.)

CARTERTON SALE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—A good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs came forward at the Carterton sale yesterday, and was offered to a large attendance. Sheep again sold well, competition being keen throughout. Cattle sold on a par with rates ruling at previous sales, and the market for pigs, especially weaners, showed a hardening tendency.
