INDIAN TOUR. * ‘ UNNECESSARILY STRENUOUS. ’ ’ AUCKLAND, Friday. The belief that the Indian hockey team’s tour of New Zealand was made ■unnecessarily strenuous is held by the co-manager, Mr P. Gupta, who said he did not know of any other team which ;liad to undergo such physical and mental strain. He contrasted their programme of 29 matches in ten weeks with, the All Blacks’ 28 matches in three months and 20 days. There would Tni 29 All Blacks, but the Indians numbered sixteen. The team had had to play three matdies within a radius of 40 miles at Hamilton, Morrinsville and Te Aroha. ►.surely-it would have been possible to allow the Indians to stay at Hamilton sis headquarters, and send teams there instead of the Indians having to go to the three places. Mr >Gupta said he wished to correct report emanating from Christchurch that the team had been indulging in too many extras at the expense of the New Zealand Hockey Association. It was a stupid and irresponsible statement. The team had not exceeded its rights in any direction, but had willingly paid many expenses that should have been carried by the Hockey Association. Another point was that no member of the team drank liquor, but they drank a lot of milk.—(P.A.) TEAM FOR THIRD TEST. AUCKLAND, Friday. The New Zealand hockey team for the final hockey Test match against the Indians to-morrow will be as follows: — Moore; Ewan, Rogers; W. J. Bowden, McLeod, Speirs; M. Bowden, Bay, E. Watts, Turbitt, Wellboume. —(P.A.)

TE ORE ORE TEAM. VISIT TO HASTINGS. (Contributed.) By the geenral report received, it will be seen that the To Ore Ore team, which took part in the hockey tournament held at Omahu, Hastings, upheld their reputation as a team of good sports and triers. They were most unfortunate in having to travel with two players short, but these were replaced on their journey up. They were the most popular team in action and off the field, and although they were the only tearp. who travelled without supporters, their games were Watched closely, and they did not lack barrackers. Thirty-three ladies’ teams competed and 27 men’s teams. The following is the result of "B” section, in which Te Ore Ore competed:—• Tuesday, 16tli July.—Played Ruatoki, drew, no score; played _ Huia, drew, no score;' played Taranaki,Host, I—nil;1 —nil; played To Toko, won, I—nil.1 —nil. Wednesday, 17th July—Played Te jAranga, won, 2 —nil; played KaliuraJiaki, drew, no score; played Mangatu, jlost, 2—nil; played Te Aowera, lost, 2 <—nil. The winners of the B section were •Te Teko, and Te Ore Ore supporters will be pleased to know that Te Telco had their only loss to Te Ore Ore. All [the matches were closely contested, as lean be seen by the scores. Te Ore Ore were congratulated _on their play in general. Playing against heavily weighted teams, Te Ore Ore outclassed their opponents by their short passes and stick work. Te Ore Ore and Taranaki were the bantam teams of the tournament. Supporters will be pleased to note that, on the final day, at the dinner in the evening, out of hundreds of players and thousands of supporters and visitors, the teams to be called first to enter tlie huge dining rooms were Te Ore Ore and Taranaki, so one can imagine the ovation and cheers they received, testifying to the popularity of the local team. The playjers were rushed with cameras by both players and visitors, who all wanted snaps of the team who were the brown and gold. Even the winners of _ the Gold Cup, Tikirau, pushed in to dinner as Te Ore Ore players; when told that, as winners of such a beautiful cup, le Ore Ore felt honoured to have even a few of them at their table. They said that they hoped Te Ore Ore would be the team to play them in the final next year. A ' n Mrs To Tail has been elected a mcml ber of the Tairawhiti Maori Hockey I Federation, and is the first and only - lady member to hold such an honoured position. Next year the tournament will be held at Taranaki, and Mrs Tc Tau will be busy encouraging Maori , piavers to take up hockey, as she hopes L to enter both a ladies’ and men’s team I to represent Wairarapa. Representing Wairarapa means the "wearing of the wreen ’ ’ but no colour could possibly be more popular than the "wearing of the Brown and Gold.”
