CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
POPULAR INGLESIDE. A BRIGHT FUNCTION. The Ingleside is always a popular and thoroughly enjoyable function, and last night’s event, held in the Municipal Hall by the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, was a brilliantly entertaining evening. The hall was gaily decorated, and the general scheme, winch was under the supervision of Mr R. Donald, was decidedly novel and effective. Around the hanging electric light standards wero large square frames, and from these drojjped broad streamers. The colour scheme was orange and red. Hung high from the centre of the ceiling was a large cluster of multi-colour-ed balloons. The yellow Scottish standard, with its rearing lion, was in evidence, and in several positions around the ballroom the lion was also to be seen. Greenery around the walls and on the stage completed the decorative scheme.
The men’s committee, who were active in assisting Mr Donald with the decorations and the general arrangements for the function, were Messrs C. A. Burling (president of the Society), J. J. Hunter, P. C. McLaren, A. G. Corslde, A. Donald, J. A. Kerslakc, D. A. Pickering and G. Beecroft. The ladies’ committee, to whom a particularly delicious supper was a great credit, were Mesdames C. Burling, A. G. Corslde, A. Cameron, D. McLaughlin, P. C. McLaren, W. Campbell, J. A. Henderson, J. J. Hunter, J. A. Kerslakc and G. Beecroft.
At the commencement of each sitting of supper, the haggis was piped round the supper room in traditional style, led by Piper Murdoch Mackenzie. The M’s.C. wero Messrs J. J. Hunter, J. W. Henderson and A. Corskie, who kept the dancing going Avith a SAving to music supplied by the Blue River Dance Band.
The strains of the bagpipes filled the ballroom as the grand march Avas led by Pipers Murdoch Mackenzie and J. McKenzie.
