CRICKET
SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM.
LEICESTERSHIRE MATCH. LONDON, Tuesday. The South Africans have secured a strong grip on their cricket match with Leicestershire. The county team could muster only 123 runs in answer to the visitors’ score of 312, and, before stumps were drawn, the South Africans had scored another 214 runs for the loss of three wickets. Instead of exercising his right to require Leicestershire to follow on, Wade, the South African captain, decided to give his team the opportunity of some batting practice. Wade himself displayed some.fine forcing strokes. Leicestershire were always in trouble after Bell had dismissed Berry. Crisp was the most spectacular bowler, but Tomlinson was impressive, cleverly mixing pace and break. The fielding of the South, Africans was often brilliant. ■. , l Dempster, the New Zealander, who lias not yet .qualified to play,> for the county in championship matches, looked dangerous, but Crisp beat him neck and crop with a perfect-length ball.
