ART EXHIBITION

ATTRACTIVE WATER COLOURS. A very delightful afternoon was spent by the members of the. Masterton Sketch Club ,and friends at a private view of the exhibition of water colours by H. 11. Pulliene, which is open to the public to day and .to-morrow. The pictures were much admired, but perhaps greatest interest centred round Mrs Pulliene-Spencer’s bush, scenes, of which the most outstanding were those of giant kauris in the Waipoua Forest, and “Native Bush,” the latter being a most attractive study of New Zealand tree ferns and undergrowth. Next in order of merit came fivo beautiful studies of the Blue Mountains, Australia, the centre of attraction here being a picture which portrays the beautiful terraces of the Blue Mountains as they fade into the distance. Another sketch which attracted a great deal of attention was a dainty little beach scene, “Victor Harbour,” South Australia, and further on was “Lake Rotorua,” a masterly painting of the bright blue lake seen through the trees on its bank. All present had nothing but praiso for the pictures exhibited, and professed themselves eager to return for another study. These present were Mesdames Dalziell, Pulliene, F. H. Taylor, Collie, Campbell-Heard, Ramsay, Moss, W. K. Gill, Hubbard, Brockett, Vowell, J. W. Perry, Cruickshank, Peacock, L. Moore, Harrison, R. Barton, R. Gully, Young, S. Gill, Blundell, M.
