SIDE SHOWS.
The time has certainly arrived when all side-shows at agricultural and pastoral exhibitions should be licensed. The personnel.of the side shows should be subject to strict scrutiny, and police reports secured as to whether the shows were suitable for public patronage. Associated with many of these side shows are undesirable persons, and as a consequence the A. and P. Association which lets space to them is often put to considerable trouble and anxiety in controlling them. On the other hand, there are side shows which are in charge of respectable citizens, and with whom no fault could be found. Circumstances warrant the licensing of all side shows, both in the interests of the general public and those who conduct their business on proper lines. The police could certainly provide much interesting history in connection with many of the people associated with side shows. With licensing in the hands of the police there would be a better type. of side show and attendant, bringing about a lessening of the anxiety of those who control this section at an agricultural and pastoral exhibition.
