BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
The fact that a number in excess of the candidates required for seats on the Masterton Borough Council is forthcoming in connection with the election is a healthy sign, being evidence of a lively interest in the affairs of the borough. When elections are allowed to reach that point when the comparatively few interested have to comb the town to secure the number required to fill the seats, it does not reflect credit on the citizens, who should at all times keep in touch with the affairs of the Borough and display sufficient keenness to see that the best men or women are available for the positions offering. New blood is generally beneficial to a local body, and the knowledge that there will be competition for seats compels the retiring members to always give of their best. As far as the Masterton Borough Council is concerned, the retiring councillors will, no doubt, retain the confidence of the electors, and the interest will chiefly centre in the two seats vacated by Crs. Free and Peacock. Mr Jordan will doubtless have a clear field for the Mayoralty, his position, as the result of faithful service given, being a very strong one.
