BOXING CONTROL

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. “From the prospects before us it looks as if we Avill have a very successful season,” said Mr G. W. Sellar, opening the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Boxing Association last night. Mr Sellar also expressed pleasure at the presence at the meeting of Mr A. P. Whatman, the club’s patron, whoso great assistance to the club all recognised with deep appreciation. -Mr Whatman presided over a good attendance. The annual report, which has already been published, and the balance sheet were adopted. Referring to the annual report, Mr Sellar said that taking everything into consideration he thought the financial position of the club was quite satisfactory. With tho increased membership that was promised and the extra enthusiasm for boxing apparent in the district he considered they could face this year with a great deal of confidence, with the hope that at the end of the year the association would be in well on its way towards being again a fairly sound financial position and be

the strong organisation that it was before the war.

Eight new members were elected. Mr Sellar explained that the association, primarily in the interests of boxing, had taken a lease of the Dixon Street Hall for twelve months. The association would be prepared to make the hall available at a reasonable rate to other sports bodies and also to the trainers of boys for boxing tournaments or boys coaching. A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that a tourney, Masterton v. The Rest of Wairarapa, be held as early as possible in May. The opinion was also expressed that boxers should be obtained as from other districts and that asljrmany novices as possible should be given a try-out. It Avas hoped to give all clubs a chance of participating in the tourneA*.
