The engagement is announced, of Lesley, the only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. W. Paytqju, of Cole Street, Masterton, to Salvin John Cameron Wilson, of Levin, the second son of Mrs and the late Mr H. W. Wilson, Wanganui. The engagement is announced of Miss Audrey Temple Williams, daughter of the late Mr Erl Williams, and of Mrs Geoffrey Elkington, to Mr James Robert Little, the eldest son of Mrs Little and the late H. T. Little, of “Hui Hui,” North Canterbury.
The Wairarapa Secondary Education Boardi wrote to the meeting of the Trust Lands Trust last night advising that the period of Mr W. H. Jackson, the Trust’s representative on the Board, expired on 31st March, and asking the Trust to appoint - their nominee for the next two years. Mr Jackson was re-appointed. As a token of appreciation of his services to the Wairarapa Boxing Association during the past season, a presentation was made at the association’s meeting last night to the secretary, Mr W'. Brady. The president, Mr G. W. Sellar, paid a warm tribute to Mr Brady and his remarks were endorsed by several other speakers. On behalf of members, the patron, Mr A. P. Whatman, presented Mr Brady with a wallet.
At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Boxing Association officers were c-lceted as follow for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr A. P. Whatman: president, Mr G. W. Sellar; vice-presid-ents, Messrs W. Cameron. A. McDonald, G. C. Williams, W. A. Todd, \V. R. Birch, J. Wi Buchanan, .T. M. James, O. A. Cadwallader, J. F. Thompson; committee, Messrs A. C’orskie, T. Caverliill, J. Bradbury, S. Pragnell, J. Watson; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Brady; timekeepers, Messrs J. Bradbury and G; Dallas; lion, auditor, Mr C. Sutherland; lion, surgeons, Drs. J. C. Forsyth, Archer Ilosking, A. M. Scott (Masterton, Campbell (Carterton), H. B. Berney (Greytown) and G. S. Sharp (Featherston). General Evangeline Booth is due to arrive in Wellington from Sydney via Auckland by train on Sunday morning, 28th April, when a great welcome 'will be given her at the station by the Army folk and their bands. There will be another great hallelujah service in the Town Hall that eve’hing, and on Monday evening a great musical demonstration will be given in the Town Hall, at which the visitor will speak. ■ Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to a big conference, to be attended by officers from all parts of New Zealand, and on Thursday (2nd May) evening, General Booth will leave again by rail for Auckland. There will be a great farewell meeting at the Auckland Town Hall on Friday evening, 3rd May. and on Saturday, 4tli May, General Booth will leave for Ran Francisco by the Mariposa.
