Y.M.C.A.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. Directorate was held last night, the president, Mr H. M. Peacock, occupying the chair. The annual report, of which a summary ha.s already appeared in the “Daily Times” was adopted. The report recorded a credit balance of oa er £640. Some of this had been used] to eliminate the bank overdraft of many years standing and the actual cash balance at 28th February was £355/12/3. It was intended to utilise some of theso funds for renovating and repainting the building. It had been decided to place both the Macßae Trust Fund and the Y.M.C.A. Endowment of £IOOO on fixed deposit for two years. By tho enlargement of this endowment the association’s future could be assured and an appeal was made to friends contemplating drawing up wills to include the Y.M.C.A. in any benefactions that might be made. Speaking to the report, Mr Peacock referred especially to the position of the unemployed boy. Some definite work was being done, but they could not wait for a solution and it was there that the Y.M.C.A. came in. It could make contact with boys who would not be otherwise touched. Mr Peacock referred fto the Y.M.C.A. camps and child -welfare —work that tho directors and secretary could not do alone, as it was a matter for all. If the association had the backing of tho community the results would be still greater. Mr C. C. Jackson, speaking on behalf of country residents, said the splendid work being carried out by the Y.M.C.A. was widely recognised in rural areas. Mr A. E. Bate was appointed to represent the Masterton Y.M.C.A. at the biennial convention, which is to be held at Wellington to-morrow.

At the conclusion of business, a social evening was held. Vocal items were given by Miss E. Ralph and Mr B. Venner while Mr J. J. Hunter led community singing. Mrs W. G. Perry played the accompaniments and Mr Eric Green provided the music for the dancing. Supper was also served. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had assisted.
