WAR TRAGEDY
SOLDIERS BURIED ALIVE.
PARIS, Wednesday
'A grim battlefield find was made in a wood near Chaulncs. A gamekeeper ’s dog suddenly disappeared in a hole. Investigation revealed that this led to an underground gallery, roofed with sheet iron. A skeleton wearing a German shrapnel helmet was found on a ■seat of earth with a rifle within reach. Nineteen other skeletons of Germans were then found. Apparently they were imprisoned by a shell which closed the entrance to the sap during the bombardments in September, 1917, and died of suffocation.
