QUOTAS FOR SMOKERS? Where is the “quota” method going to stop The average farmer already feels as if the control of his business is slipping out of his hands, and fears that some powers-that-be will soon be telling him what he is allowed to sow and cultivate, and what he is not. Many business men, too, are equally concerned at the development of the idea of ‘ ‘ centralised control. ’ ’ All is not lost, however, long as the smoker retains reasonable freedom in the choice of his “smoke.” Even a harassed farmer or shopkeeper feels that the world is not such a bad place after all as he .puffs at a pipe of Red Shield (Dark) or Blue Shield (Medium)— these two triumphs in the art of blending and “toasting” tobacco. They are decidedly “grateful and comforting.” A New Zealander should be proud to realise that they are typical of New Zealand tobacco at their best. Tliereconomy is another pleasing factor the 2oz. tins arc only 1/7, whilo the lib canister is even more economical at 11/8. 72
