TORRENTIAL RAIN
FLOODS IN FAR NORTH. WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Torrential rain, amounting to over 4$ inches, fell in several areas during the 24 hours up to ,9 o ’clock this morning and caused heavy flooding in the far north for the fourth time Avithin the last three months, though of lesser extent arid seriousness than on the previous occasions. The severest effect Avas at Kaeo, which is completely isolated for the time being. A Avide sAveep in the Mangakahia district is under nine feet of Avater, and all other routes to centres further north, are impassable. ;; . South of Whangarei the conditions are also bad in places, and there is eight feet of water on the road between Taipuha and Mareretu. The deluge Avas accompanied by a violent north-east gale.— (P.A.)
