V.A.T.C. MEETING,
MELBOURNE, Saturday
The V.A.T.C. Caulfield meethig was continued in fine weather. The track was good. The ’New Zealand jockey, K. Voitre, rode two very fine races. In the St. Clair Handicap he took the unfancied Eastern Knight to the front in the run home, and just managed to hold off Ganvmead in an exciting finish. His handling of Count Ito in the second division of the Hawksburn Handicap was equally meritorious. Synagogue, having his first race in Australia, battled out the finish of the Futurity Stakes in fine style, and is hailed as a first-class colt.
Capris, although by no means first away in the Stanley Plate, soon went to the front, winning very comfortably. La Trobe finished brilliantly, to take the Woodcliff Handicap from Whittingham, who had a big lead entering the straight. Eesults are as follow: — ST. CL AIE TEIAL, 81 furlongs.

Bustard 7.5 (Egan) 3 Eleven started. Three-quarters of a length; 3 lengths. Time, 1.121. Second Division. Whittingham, 8.5 (Pratt) 2 Contact, 7.G (Knox) 3 All started. Entering the straight, Whittingham was well clear of La Trobe, with Contact, Theo and Nuit d 'Or next. La Trobe got up to win by half a head. Contact was two lengths awav, then came Nuit d’Or, Prismatic, Dark Chief, Topical, Pewter and Theo. Time. 2.181. FUTURITY STAKES, 7 furlongs. Synagogue, 8.5 (Pratt) " Heros, 9.8 (Dempsey) * Winooka, 10.2 (Pike) 3 'Dead heat for first. Break Up and Arachne were scratched. Synagogue, Heros, Silver King and Sunclad were first away, but Silver King was soon in front, and led past the half-mile by a length from Heros. Then came Sunclad, Synagogue, Radi-, ant Star and Winooka. Silver King was a length ahead of Heros entering the straight, with Synagogue next, but with a furlong to go Heros led. from Synagogue, Silver King and Winooka. Synagogue drew level, and he and Heros crossed the line together, with Winooka a length and a half away. Then came Press Gang, Spartan and Radiant Star. Winooka did not appear to stav as -well as formerly. Time, 1.25. STANLEY PLATE, 7 furlongs. Capris, 9.8 (Marsden) 1 Lilircne, 7.7 i(Simmonds) 2 Marion Melton, 8.12 (Skidmore) .... 3 Ten started. WOODVILLE MEETING.' WOODVILLE, Saturday. The Woodville Jockey Club's autunm meeting concluded to-day in fine -weather. There was a good attendance. The track was holding as a result of overnight rain. The totalisator handled £5048, as compared with £5502 on the second day last year. Morris, interfered with State Bank, ridden by R. Marsh, an ennuiry was held and adjourned until today, when Reed and Morris were held guilty of careless riding. Each was suspended for one month.
