The many friends of Air C. Bell, of Alt. Bruce, will regret to hear that he is laid up with a broken ankle sustained in an accident. Miss Jean Batten left Wellington this afternoon by the Alaunganui for the Alelbourne centenary celebrations. She is undecided as to whether she will return to New Zealand for the summer or leave for England after the finish of the big air race, and she could not say definitely whether the journey to England might be made by air or not. A tablet to the memory of the late Alessrs John and Arthur Alartin was dedicated at the morning service at St. Andrew’s Church, Martinborough, on Sunday by the Right Rev. Bishop of Wellington, Dr. T. 11. Sprott. The tablet was inscribed: “In grateful remembrance of the lives of John and Arthur Martin, and of their services to this church and district.

It is reported that the successor to Lord Bledisloe as Governor-General of the Dominion will be the Rt. Hon. Sir John Gilmour, Bart., D. 5.0., the present Secretary of Home Affairs. Sir John is the 2nd Baronet, which title dates from 1897. His family consists of one son and two daughters. He served in the South African War and twice was mentioned in despatches, also in the Great War (despatches, D. 5.0., bar). Some positions he has occupied are Alas ter of Fife Fox Hounds 1902-6; Junior Lord of Treasury 1921-22; Scottish Unionist Whip 1919-22 and 24; Secretary of State fox’ Scotland 192629; residences Alontrave, Leven, Fife, 6 Cadogan Square, London.
