WOOL MARKET
, LONDON SALES. LONDON, Saturday. _ The “Yorkshire Observer” anticipates higher values at next Tuesday s wool sales in London. This journal states that some leading topmakers m Bradford expect prices about 10 per cent above July closing rates. Much, however, depends on Conanental competition. ...... It is expected that France will be fairly active, and even Italy, despite lestrictions, may do more than is generally expected. SYDNEY SALES. SYDNEY, Saturday. The weekly wool letter of the “Sydney Morning Herald” states that prices for the great bulk of the wool submitted this week in Sydney showed no quotable alteration, but competition was healthier. Yorkshire and Japan were buying freely, with Continental competition more widely distributed. The absence of any marked variation in prices is encouraging, .but ;.the offerings have been small owing to withdrawals. ili'-Vllei 1. The wisdom or otherwise 6f heavy withdrawals remains to be proved, as no development is in sight m Europe to iustify the assumption that prices are likely to appreciate, while conditions for selling wool very freely to the Continent arc far less favourable than at this time last year. ' Next week will provide the. test, as the London September sales will open on Tuesday. ,
