CHORAL SOCIETY.
What has become of the Masterton Choral Society? The season is well forward, and, as yet, no move has been made to bring together again that excellent band of singers which rendered so well, under the baton of Mr Charles W. Kerry, Handel’s immortal “Messiah” last November. It would be a great pity to see the Society, go into complete recess. There is in Masterton the material for the adequate presentation of some choral work or an oratorio such as “Elijah” or Handel’s “Messiah.” Probably it is quite true that a full measure of .financial support has not been given the Society during the past two years. However, there does appear to be some easing of the economic position, and it might be worth while to get the members of the society into rehearsal again. In order to make sure that finance is made available, some effort might be made to interest musical people to the extent of becoming guarantors for a certain amount. The Amateur Operatic Society has definitely announced that no work will be presented this year on account of the Opera House being unavailable, and it would be a pity if the season were allowed to end without any effort to present a programme by one of the Masterton musical societies. The talent .is here, even if the spark of vitality is temporarily missing.
