MAIL SUBSIDES

AMERICAN REVISION. WASHINGTON, Tuesday. The Associated Press understands that a complete revision of the Government’s ocean mail policy is planned by the Administration within six months. The new arrangement contemplated will give direct subsidies where these are deemed necessary to build up the merchant marine, while mails will be handled on a straight poundage basis. It is estimated that such a policy will result in a saving of about £2,000,000 yearly. The figures show that the Government paid about £5,200,000 for the ocean mails service, Avliile on a poundage basis it would have been about £600,000.
