A The many friends of Mr H. Stearw, Villa Street, Masterton, will hear with i® regret that he is in the Masterton Hospital undergoing treatment. The engagement is announced of Miss Mona Carrick, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Carrick, Lower Hutt, to Mr Bert Bradley, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr A. J. Bradley, “Helensville,” Auckland. Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., Dominion President of the Farmers ’ Union, who has been suffering from influenza since the beginning of this month, has now almost completely recovered. He is at the Royal Oak Hotel, Wellington.

A London cable states: Critics praise the New Zealander, Miss Stella Murray’s song recital in the Aeolian Hall, one critic singling out a Schubert selection, though regarding the singing of German songs in English as a disadvantage.

Consequent on the death of Mr Cecil W. Palmer, Managing Director of the Fluenzol and Q-tol Proprietary, Ltd., Mr W. H. Stevens, who has acted as Director and Manager for the past eight years, has been appointed to the position of Managing Director. Mr Jj| R. Kirk, M.8.E., has been appointed Chairman of Directors, while Mr Will Appleton has jointed the Board as a Director. '

The death occurred at the Masterton Public Hospital on Thursday of Mr George Bartlett, at the age of 87 years. Deceased was of a kindly but retiring disposition. He was the engine driver of.the morning train from Wairarapa to Wellington which was blown over the Rimutaka Incline in 1880 at a place since called “Siberia.” He was uninjured. The funeral took place this afternoon.

At a meeting of Directors of the Fluenzol and Q-tol Proprietary, Ltd., held on 16tli inst., the following resolution was passed, members of the Board standing in silence: “ That this Board place upon record its marked sense of loss in the death of the founder of the Company, Mr Cecil 'VSTStso'n Palmer, its cordial appreciation of his valuable services over a long period of years and its sincere sympathy with liis widow and relations in the loss tliev have sustained.” jjm
