(Notes by “Plunge.”) On 17th March the Swimming Club will hold a carnival, when many visiting swimmers will be present. The Featherston, Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough, Hutt and Wellington Clubs will be well represented. The Wellington provincial champion •diver, Miss Peggy Price, will give an exhibition of diving. Blakely, Gallette and other prominent swimmers will • compete in the 880 yards provincial This alone will be well worth seeing. Besides the championship events there will be the usual 100 yards, 75 yards and 50 yards handicaps, and the Brough Cup for the 50 yards ijjjbrrclub handicap will Itlso be comped for. " Next Wednesday night the club will hold a small carnival at the Dixon Street baths at 8 o’clock. The admission will be: Adults 6d, children 3d. The club championships will be held. In the 100 yards men’s championship, J. Barnes will be a ‘ * hot' ’ favourite, but one can never tell who will win. The 100 yards breaststroke championship will'be on the programme, and this should be well contested. R. Bodle, on his present form, should be in the first two to finish. Besides these eventsthe intermediate, junior boys dud ladies’ handicaps will be held; also a relav and open dive. Next week a party- of Mnsterton swimmers will pay a visit to the Hutt, partly for coaching and partly to compete in the Hutt carnival. If it is pos-. sible for the four members of the representative relay team to make the trip they should do so by all means, because of their very creditable performance in winning the Wairarapa relay championship in 54sec. It would do all the swimmers a world of good to be criticised and coached by an experienced coach. The committee should use every endeavour to _ make this a successful trip, for it will no d'ijbt greatly improve the swimming ot members, and that is what is wanted. The club secretary, Mr F. M. Morton, will receive the names of airy other members who wish to make the trip. This should be done before Tuesday, so that the necessary arrangements can be made. Regarding the Mastcrton Club carnival, the members are reminded to put in their entries as soon as possible. As it is only a fortnight off the carnival and three days off the club championships, it is advisable that the swimmers should be careful what they eat and drink, and see that they get as much sleep as possible. J. Barnes especially should be m training, for he has quite a good chance in the 880 yards championship. Barnes should do his best, for if he gains a place it will prove that the standard* of swimming in Wairarapa is not as low as it is thought to be. Last Wednesday night the ladies 25 yards handicap was well contested, and it is hoped that next Wednesday night more lady swimmers will be seen. Ihe junior race had as many entries as usual, and some of the lads show distinct* signs of improvement. In the intd®k3diatc race, Colquhoun swam a parMlarly good race for a newcomer to fhe sport; he should keep it up. Brown, in the men’s 100 yards handicap did very well considering it was his’first race this year. If he keeps it up he should have a good chance in the club carnival. . R. Bodle has improved lately, hut ne is still inclined to drop his Lit are’ into the water too soon'. If F. Bodle were to concentrate on style more he would find that he would gain more speed than by swinging the arms. More training is wanted in this -case. , ~ - ft J. Welch has improved over the 50 yards distance, but he will have to train if he wishes to do any good in 100 yards event. Ncwiand, W. Richards, Coleman, 'ißdry, J. Barnes and R. Barnes all show signs of improvement.
