STATION 2ZW
PROTEST AGAINST CLOSING.
'A vigorous protest against the action of the Government in closing radio station 2ZW was registered last evening at a meeting held in the Wellington Town Hall Concert Chamber, and a demand was made, in the form of a resolution, that the same service as before be maintained from the station, wit la the same houra of transmission, and tM same staff, so as to preserve the indivicP uality of the station. The meeting, which was presided over by Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., was attended by fully 700 persons, a large number being compelled to stand at the rear of the hall, and the remarks of the various speakers, which were generally delivered in a vigorous manner, were frequently punctuated with applause. Two resolution were passed by the meeting, as follow: (1) That this meeting strongly condemns the closing down of Station 2ZW, and the action of the Government which has brought about its loss, and this meeting demands that the same service be maintained from this station as before, with the same hours of transmission and the same staff, so as to preserve the individuality of the station; and (2) That this meeting expresses indignation at the intention of the Government to abolish sponsored programmes, thereby depriving B stations of their only revenue, and depriving listeners of a fine service, and this meeting demands that B stations be allowed to gain revenue by using 30 words of advertising in any 3(7 minutes.
