A Wanganui telegram states that Mr James Compton, of Queensland, has been appointed conductor of the IV anganui Garrison Band. Lieutenant C. J. Williams, 2nd Cadet Battalion (Mount Albert Grammar School) has been promoted to captain. He recently) took up a position on the staff of the Masterton Technical School.

A Montreal cable states that General Sir Arthur Currie, Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian corps in France, and principal and' vice-Chancellor of McGill University, died yesterday, 'aged fiftyseven. Sir Arthur was stricken with a blockage of a blood-vessel in the middle brain on 7th November. Pneumonia developed and was the cause of., death.

Chosen from 44 applicants all over New Zealand, Mr John Norman Millard, M.Sc., B A., was appointed headmaster of the Hutt Valley High School in place of Mr H. P. Kidson, who, leaves at the end of the year to take up a position as‘principal of the Otago Boys’ High School. Mr Millard lias been first assistant at the High School for the past seven years and is head of the department of mathematics and science.

The death occurred suddenly at the Amuri Hospital, Rotherham, yesterday, of Mrs Mary Lucy Aroha, Brustad. Mrs Brustad was better known throughout New Zealand as Miss Aroha .Clifford, whose exploits as New Zealand’s first aviatrix are well remembered. Mrs Brustad, who was twenty-five years of age, was the third daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Clifford, of Garden Road, Fendalton. She was born in Wellington and spent part of her childhood in England. At the annual meeting last night of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club the election of officers for the ensn-‘ ing year resulted as follows: —Presidl ent, Mr W. L. Free (re-elected unojjJ posed); vice-presidents, Messrs R. Me? Kenzie and J. Fearon (re-elected unopposed) committee, Messrs H. Armstrong, E. F. Barton, A. W. Buchanan, A. R. C. Claridge, I. W. Grace, H. inge, D. J. McNicol, A. V. Jury, N. G. Whiteman and H. T. Parsons; club captain, Mr K. S. McMaster; hon. treasurer, Mr G. W. Sellar. Mr A. D. Low was re-appointed auditor.
