BIBLE CLASS MOVEMENT

SERVICE IN CARTERTON. An interesting service was held in the Carterton Methodist Church last evening, when the Wairarapa District Young Men’s Bible Classes held a thanksgiving service and presented their annual offering for the Union funds. The chair was taken by the minister of the church (the Rev. R. J. Liddell) who announced the hymn, “Yes, God is Good,” after which he led the gathering in prayer. The hymn, ‘‘ O God and Father of Mankind” was then sung; after which the secretary of the union (Mr Trevor Jones) explained the reason for such a service. Mr Jones specially mentioned the work done by Dr. Sayers in the Western Solomons and that of Mr R. Mayson, the union travelling secretary, whose stipends were provided by the Bible Class Movement.

The Rev. Hedley White, of Grevtown, the president of the Wairarapa Union, led the meeting in corporate prayer. The roll call having been read, the representatives of the various classes came forward and laid the offering of their respective classes on the table. The Rev. G. F. Stockwell, of Masterton, was the speaker for the evening and based his remarks on the words of the Psalmist, “What slial I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me,” stressing the need for the practical expression of our thankfulness. “O Jesus, I have Promised” was the final hymn, after which the Benediction was pronounced. The meeting was Avell attended, there being a good representation from Greytown, Carterton and Masterton, including a number of members of the Young Women’s Classes. After the service a round-table conference was held, when a number of suggestions were made for the more efficient working of the classes in the Wairarapa Union. The ladies of the Carterton classes provided supper, and a hearty vote of thanks for the hospitality extended to the visitors was moved by Mr Clark and carried with acclamation.
