TWO EARTHQUAKES

At least twelve persons were killed and over 150 injured by an earthquake in Central Italy. The mountain region of Abruzzi suffered most severely. There were two shocks at about 4.36 o’clock in the morning, lasting thirty seconds. The epicentre districts were Castello di Sangro and Rocearoso. Houses crashed, burying the sleeping occupants, while panic-stricken survivors rushed through the streets and took refuge in the fields.
