COSY THEATRE. ‘'THE MALTESE FALCON.” Commencing a three-night season tonight at the Cosy Theatre is “The Maltese Falcon, ’’ starring Bebe Daniels. The picture unfolds a story of crime and detection. The heroine, if she can be so called, is a baffling adventuress who keeps everybody guessing to the last moments of the play whether she is what she seems to be or what the detectives think she is. The fuss is all about the statuette of a bird, presumably a falcon, the body of which is crammed with priceless jewels. This is spirited from Hong Kong by strange means causing much excitement on the way. Miss Daniels gives a brilliant performance as the alleged queen of the crime ring—who wins over all men except the one man she really wants to win. This individual, the head of a detective agency, is played by Ricardo Cortez. Others in the cast are Dudley Digges, Una Merkel, Robert Elliott, Thelma Todd, Dwight Frye and J. Farrell MacDonald. Reserves at Perry’s, ’phone 2496. THE REGENT. “A NIGHT IN CAIRO.” Ramon Novarro is cast as an Egyptian guide in “A Night in Cairo,” commences this evening at the Regent and then for three nights. Novarro’s interest in ladies on tour increases in proportion to the size of their pocket books, and “A Night in Cairo” combines thrilling episodes and a colourful romance, with a generous peppering of fresh, ingratiating humour. The story is the engrossing narrative of a beautiful young woman wno visits the Nile country in the company of her some.what stupid English fiance. Supporting Novarro are Myma Loy and Reginald Denny. The excellent selected supporting featurettes include a Laurel and Hardy comedy, “Me and My Pal,” the inimitable Pete Smith describing wrestlers and their holds, and two interesting Gazettes. Reserves at Perry’s, ’phone 2496.
