LANSDOWNE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. Mr J. Stephen presided over a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Lansdowne Tennis Club, held last night. The annual report, which was adopted, stated, in part:—“The membership of the club now stands at 36, comprising 18 ladies and 18 men. Suitable arrangements were made with the Lansdowne School Committee for the leasing of the courts, and after paying rental for these and the various other expenses in connection with the club, including the annual dance at the close of the season amounting to £8 12/7, there is now a credit balance of £6/4/4, with one outstanding subscription, which we hope to collect in tne near future. The position is considered very satisfactory. . . The various officers are to be thanked for their services to the club and likewise the ladies’ committee who attended to the afternoon tea arrangements during the season. The club tournament was managed by Mr R. D. Makgill and assisted by Miss V. Watson in his handicapping. Special thanks are due to these officers for their services. Although there were fewer entrants this season, some very keen and enjoyable games were played: the men’s doubles championship was not finalised. We were very pleased to accept from the president, Mr J. Stephen, one new challenge cup for competition by lady members. During the season, the club was entertained at afternoon tea provided by Mesdames H. E. Pither, J. Broad and J. Stephen. Thanks are due to these people for their kind hospitality. On 22nd June members and their friends were entertained at a dance held in the Orange Hall, at which the trophies won during the season were presented by the patroness, Mrs H. E. Pither. This terminated a very successful season. The committee desires to express its thanks to all office-bearers, the ladies’ committee, Mr R. W. Coutts, auditor, the Press, and all those who assisted to promote that feeling of good fellowship now prevailing in the club ' and which we hope will still be maintained.”

It was decided to open the season on 7tli October.
