The busiest time of the year Avas selected for the hold-up, and the employers declare that if the strike lasts three days, 70,000 skins, valued at £35,000, Avill be rendered Avorthlcss. TROUBLE SPREADS. SYDNEY, Sunday. There are noAv 1400 men idle as a result of the strike. The avool and basil Avorkers ceased operations on Friday. Eight hundred are on strike and 600 Avere dismissed as a result. An early settlement of the trouble seems unlikely, and the trouble may inA r olve the butchers’, tanners’, storemen’s, packers’ and road transport unions. The Chamber of Manufacturers passed the folloAA'ing resolution:—“After cleaning up the Avork in hand, the best course Avould be to close the works. ’ ’ In order to preA r ent the spread of disorganisation, slaughtering Avill be continued in the meantime. The State Government is poAverless, as the dispute affects a Federal aAvard, but in vieAV of the fact that thousands of State Avorkers are affected by the extension of the trouble the Minister of Labour is Avatching events closely.
