THE REGENT. “PROSPERITY.!” “Prosperity,” a truly hilarious comedy, featuring Marie Dressier and Polly Moran, is to be shown finally at the Regent Theatre to-night. It is claimed, that this makes the most important array of cinema talent ■which has ever been seen in a, single production. The stars are Gary, Cooper, George Raft, Wynne Gibson, 'diaries Laughton, Jack Oakie, Frances Dee, iQharlie Ruggles, Alison .Skipworth, W. O. Fields, Mary Boland I ,' Roscoe Earns, May Robson, Gene Raymond, Lueien Littlefield and Richard Bennett They play in the story of an eccentric old millionaire who distributes his fortune among eight persons whose names he chooses at random from a telephone directory. One of the beneficiaries is an ex-vaudeville actress; another, a lady of dubious past; a third, a rowdy Marine; another a young husband; another, an abused clerk in a china, shop; another, a condemned murderer only a few hours from the electric chair; another, an inhabitant of an Old Ladies’ Home; another, a forger being sought by the police; and the last, an underdog in an office. To each, sudden wealth means something else. Tragedy and comedy follow in the waks of the gifts; its results are sometimes ironic, sometimes ormantic. Seats may be leserved at Perry’s, ’phone 2496. COSY THEATRE. ‘‘ M ADAME BUTTERFLY. ’ ’ The programme at the Cosy Theatre is headed by the talking picture version of the famous opera “Madame Butterfly. ’ ’ This Paramount production is set to a brilliant background of music from Puccini’s opera.. It deals with a Japanese girl’s love for a naval officer. Despite the difference in race and custom they are married and live happily for several months. Their marriage is interrupted, however, when the officer is forced to return home. Madame Butterfly waits and prays for his return to Japan. He eventually comes back, but under entirely changed circumstances, to find her still waiting. Then ensues a tender seen© with an unusual twist which brings the film to a highly dramatic conclusion. Sylvia Sidney has the title role. Gary Grant, best known for his recent performance in “Blonde Venus,” is the naval officer. Seats may be reserved at Perry’s, ’phone 2496.
