RELIEF WORKERS

HAWKE’S BAY STRIKE. POSITION UNCHANGED. 1 HASTINGS, Friday. Tho strike position in Napier and Hastings remains unaltered. The most important development to-day was a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay provincial council of the National Union of Unemployed which afterwards issued the following statement: — “Every effort is now being made by the provincial council to effect a reasonable settlement and it is still hoped that a national strike will be averted. A telegram has been received from Wellington stating that national action has been decided upon and we have also received communications from many relief workers’ organisations throughout the Dominion assuring us ■of their support. The position has been greatly improved and already certain concessions have been offered by the conference of local bddies. The Hawke’s Bay County Council has made certain offers which still contain features of which the provincial council cannot agree. A further conference of local bo4ies’ representatives has been arranged by the Mayor of Napier and through that conference we have submitted our reply to the County Council.” —(P.A.) WAIPUKURAU DECISION. WAIPUKURAU, This Day. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the National Union pf Unemployed last night it "was decided' by a large majority not to strike at present, but tho Waipawa workless are understood to have resolved upon striking in sympathy with the Hastings and Napier unemployed organisation.
