LANSDOWNE TENNIS CLUB
SOCIAL EVENING. ' The iLansdowne Tennis Club gave a most enjoyable social evening to its members and their friends in the Orange Hall recently. The president, •Mr J. Stephen, welcomed the guests, and referred to the beautiful trophies competed for during the season which were to be presented that evening. He was sure that the donors of the four challenge cups would be pleased to know h-o-w keenly these trophies were competed for and how they were appreciated by every member of the club. The members of the club felt that they could not -let the secretary, Mr D. H. Thomas, who had notice of. his transfer to Levin, leave without showing liim some mark of their appreciation of his services to the club, and it was with great pleasure that he presented him with a gold-mounted fountain pen. Mr Thomas suitably responded. Before calling on the patroness, Mrs H. E. Pither, to present the trophies, reference was made to the helpful assistance which she had always 'rendered the club since its inception. The winners of the various trophies were as follow: —Championships: Ladies’ singles, Mrs Sherratt men’s singles, Mr Sherratt; combined doubles, Mr and Mrs Shenratt; ladies’ doubles, Miss V. Watson and Miss Z. Pickering. Handicaps: Ladies’ singles, Mrs E. Mackley; men’s singles, Mr Sherratt; ladies’ doubles, Mrs Mackley and Miss L. Smith; men’s doubles, Messrs Sherratt and Makgill; combined doubles, Miss L. Smith and Mr C. Faulknoir; ladder matches, Miss L. Smith and Mr J. Stephen.
