WRESTLING

WIN FOR BLAKE. NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. “Whiskers” Blake beat Jack Patterson in a. sensational wrestling bout at Hawera, the referee awarding a penalty fall against Patterson in the seventh round for repeatedly disregarding his cautions. Patterson’s main defence was ■swinging on Blake’s beard. Each had scored a fall, but Patterson was lasting •better. It was a willing contest, tempers' being frayed from the outset. — (P.A.) DISSATISFACTION WITH UNION. PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. Last week arrangements were made by the Palmerston North Wrestling Association for the Patterson-Pereira bout here on Friday evening. Yesterday advice was received that owing to one of the wrestlers being required in Auckland on Saturday night the bout would have to start in time for him to join the Limited express for the north. This meant that the usual preliminaries to the main bout would either have to be eliminated or staged afterwards. When the match was first allocated to Palmerston North there were no conditions attached.

The Wrestling Association held a special meeting last evening to deal with the position. Very strong protests were made against the arbitrary action of the Dominion Union. The President said that the local association had already been committed to considerable expense and should proceed with the bout and keep faith with the public. He considered that it was high time that strong representations were made to the Union concerning the management of bouts, i A statement was made by another member that the Manawatu was being sacrificed for the sake of Auckland.

A further meeting was decided upon to discuss the unsatisfactory position regarding the Union. —(P.A.)
