“Of all the plants that grow,” writes Professor Thorold Rogers in * ‘ Science Notes,” the tobacco plant has probably been the source of more happiness than any other. To quote Kingsley, “there’s no herb like it under the eanopy of heaven.” Sometimes it proves highly injurious, it is true. When Jt does, there’s a reason for it. Smokers are notoriously careless. A man gets used to a certain brand and continues to smoke it by the mere force , 0 f • habit. If it is pure it won’t harm 'Rim. If it is overloaded with the deadly poison known as nicotine it may kill him sooner or later. The difficulty _is to ensure its purity. They have solved this problem in New Zealand, I understand. The tobacco produced in that favoured land is toasted. That. effectually rids it of most of its nicotine, it quite harmless. A wonderthßfour brands so popular with New Zealanders: Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullsbead), Cavendish, Navy Cut S 6. 3 (Bulldog), «nd R Warhead Cola—the ■ only toasted tobaccos.
