MOTOR FATALITY

TWO MEN KILLED. HEAD-ON COLLISION. ASHBURTON, This Day. Christopher Tait (23) and Stanley Meldrum (20), both single men, were killed in a head-on collision Avith a motor lorry when riding a motor cycle a mile from Methven, at 9 o ’clock last night. Tait, who resides at Methven, Avas in Charge of the cycle, and Meldrum, Avliose parents reside at Rangiora, Avas on the pillion. The cycle suddenly burst into flames, setting fire to Tait’s clothes. He lost control, and the cycle hurtled-into the lorry, which Avas approaching. Both A\ r ere seriously injured. People Avere soon on the scene and ripped the burning clothes from Tait, Avli'O expired as lie Avas lifted into a car ready to take him to the hospital. Meldrum Avas brought to the Ashburton Hospital and operated on immediately. He died' at nine o’clock this morning. His injuries Avere of a shocking nature. — : (P.A.)
