SUNDAY TENNIS
AN AUCKLAND DECISION. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Sunday play on tennis courts under its control was discussed at a! meeting of the Auckland Education Board today. An application was received from the Mercer Tennis Club for a. lease of portion of the Mercer. School site. The' chairman 'of' the-board,-Mr T. U. Wells, pointed out that Sunday play on courts directly under -the control of the board was illegal, but if a lease was entered into the- position would be different. . • „ Mr E. C. Banks: It’s the thm end of the wedge. . . Mr R. Hoe expressed the opinion that the board should keep in step with the times. Mr F. A. Snell said many of tlie local body members who were _ most strongly opposed to Sunday tennis were seen on the golf , course on .Sundays. A motion to grant a Tense on a yearly basis was carried by six votes to four. -(P.A.)
