VISIT TO WAIPUKirctAU. WAIPUKTJRAU, Friday. The Governor-General and Lady Blcdisloe paid their first visit to W aipukurau to-day, arriving by the afternoon express. ‘They were formally welcomed by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr lan MacKie) and presented with an- address in the. presence of representatives of the Central Hawke’is Bay local bodies and the Chamber of Commerce and a large assemblage of residents and district settlers. Boy Scouts formed the Guard of Honour and the town band participated. Lord Bledisloe, in the course of an address covering Dominion and Empire economic problems, pointed to the need of maintaining a high quality of exports, for which there would always be a demand. He briefly traversed the trend of the Ottawa ‘Conference and referred to the call for reciprocal trading to strengthen the purchasing ability of British consumers and heartily applauded it. Lord Bledisloe sounded a note of warning in observing that if whey butter were placed on the Home market it should not be sold as best New Zealand or blended with that grade of butter. “I should] like to limpness upon you,,” said His Excellency, “ that the gospel of national harmony is the surest road to prosperity, happiness and security. All sections should think of the country firH and of themselves-second. This will be to their own advantage eventually.'’ Lord Bledisloe paid a fine tribute to the Boy Scouts movement for its principles and service, mentioning his office as’Dominion Chief Scout.
